Artesis Utilized incipient fault characteristic as nonlinear to the system, the fault severity directly proportional to deviation from linearity, hence could be quantified by deviation from the linear model or the estimated good condition model. On the left image, deviation envelope shown in green (3 standard deviation), and in red (8 standard deviation), provided a visual aid to estimate fault severity. By overlay the RSD of actual measurement from ideal model, not only normalized deviation from each frequency band and eliminates noise from power source (Voltage noise), but deviation could be quantified by deviation from the linear model or good condition model.
MCSA has a disadvantage of unable to measure ambient vibration, hence only measure vibration pertaining to the system rotation, with MBFD, almost all noises (Vibration and power source) are eliminated. If used as a protection system, a cheap vibration system should be installed. MBFD alone could deliver an unmatched clear fault signal, and sensitivity to incipient fault. Unlike FFT, which is not suitable for quantitative analysis, for the wave phase is unresolved and unintended destructive interference is inevitable. PSD on the other hand resolved phase issues by measuring signal power, and power could be further calculated, hence AI could be easily applied.
Artesis uses AI to catagorize fault, and renders individual fault catagory trend chart. The catagory follows IEEE and EPRI motor failure literatures:
Mechanical fault catagory: Loose foundation/component, unbalance/misalignment, bearing fault, transmission fault(belts, gears and couplings), stator fault, rotor fault.
Electrical fault: Stator, Rotor, internal electrical (Motor), external electrical (None motor), including contactor, insulation capacitor etc.
Other fault: Mostly Flow Turbulence fault, foul filter and foul pipeline for heat exchangers etc
Trend chart for every indivicual fault catagory is a very useful analytical tool, especially for incipient fault. Rotational Incipient fault has 3 characteristics: It usually generates a signal, the signal is nonlinear to the system, the signal increases in an exponential model, represented in a log trend chart, it is a straight line going up. Most equipment emits some nonlinear signal which is controlled, in many cases it could lead to fault detection false alarm, with individual fault catagory trend chart, incipient fault could be easily identified, eliminating possible false alarm. Further more, each trend chart could be used to estimate failure accurately. AMTPRO usually has insufficient trend chart resolution, hence it is best applied for non-critical equipments or batch production equipments.
The Garbage rule: Garbage in Garbage out does not only apply to signal processing, bad power gives bad performance for motors too. Artesis system provides the suggested threshold too, based on prevailing standards.
